Houston Fire Captain Injured in Flashover Released from Hospital

Feb. 10, 2025
Senior Capt. Edward Escamilla was the last of three Houston firefighters injured last month to walk out of the hospital.

A Houston firefighter, injured in a flashover last month, was met with applause as he walked out of the hospital.

Capt. Edward Escamilla was one of three firefighters trapped inside an apartment while searching for victims.

Firefighters Darren Jones and Jonathan Guzman also were injured in the incident.

They called a Mayday when a heavy door blocked their exit. A fourth firefighter, who had recently rejoined the department through the city’s “rehire program,” was able to break down the door and free the trapped team, KPRC reported.
